- (historical, archaic) Synonym of 과거(科擧) (gwageo, “civil service examination”).

Usage notes
- When used in compounds, it is almost always pronounced as 꽈 (kkwa) due to the interfix ㅅ (-s-). The interfix is not written in fully Sino-Korean compounds, but is written when the first element is a native word, as in the example of 사다샛과 (sadasaetgwa) above.
- When used in isolation, it is pronounced as 과 (gwa) in formal language and 꽈 (kkwa) colloquially.
