Etymology[edit]
From Persian لاجورد (lâjvard, “azure”), via Arabic لَازَوَرْد (lāzaward, “azure”), ultimately stemming from Sanskrit Sanskrit राजावर्त (rājāvarta, “lapis lazuli”). Cognate with English azure, French azur, and Portuguese/Spanish azul.
