Etymology 1

Inherited from Proto-Tai *ɓaːꟲ (“crazy”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨷ᩶ᩤ, Khün ᨷ᩶ᩤ, Lao ບ້າ (bā), Lü ᦢᦱᧉ (ḃaa²), Shan မႃႈ (māa) or ဝႃႈ (wāa), Tai Nüa ᥛᥣᥲ (màa, “to be angry”), Ahom 𑜈𑜡 (bā), Thai บ้า (bâa).
