Inherited from Proto-Tai *ɓaːꟲ (crazy). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨷ᩶ᩤ, Khün ᨷ᩶ᩤ, Lao ບ້າ (), ᦢᦱᧉ (ḃaa²), Shan မႃႈ (māa) or ဝႃႈ (wāa), Tai Nüa ᥛᥣᥲ (màa, to be angry), Ahom 𑜈𑜡 (), Thai บ้า (bâa).
