This originates as a case form of a defective noun تَحْت ‎(taḥt, location that is below). It is declined normally when definite, e.g. التَحْتُ ‎(at-taḥtu, the location that is below). Other forms are the adverbial accusative in the preposition تَحْتَ ‎(taḥta, below), the genitive in the expression مِن تَحْتِ ‎(min taḥti, from below, below) (also with an attached pronoun, as in مِن تَحْتِهَا ‎(min taḥtihā, (from) below it)), and the irregular expression مِن تَحْتُ ‎(min taḥtu, (from) below).
