Sandhi of 打(ぶ)ち (buchi, “hitting”), the 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 打(ぶ)つ (butsu, “to hit, to strike”).^[1]^[2] The buchi- becomes bun- when prefixing a verb that starts with an n or m sound.
