From the Book of Rites, Book 18 (《禮記·學記》):

然後不足然後不足然後然後自強教學相長 [Classical Chinese, trad.]
然后不足然后不足然后然后自强教学相长 [Classical Chinese, simp.]
From: The Book of Rites, c. 4th – 2nd century BCE, translated based on James Legge's version
Gù xué ránhòu zhī bùzú, jiào ránhòu zhī kùn. Zhī bùzú, ránhòu néng zìfǎn yě; zhī kùn, ránhòu néng zìqiáng yě, gù yuē: jiào xué xiàng cháng yě. [Pinyin]
Therefore when he learns, one knows his own deficiencies; when he teaches, he knows the difficulties of learning. After he knows his deficiencies, one is able to turn round and examine himself; after he knows the difficulties, he is able to stimulate himself to effort. Hence it is said, "Teaching and learning help each other."
