[edit]From Medieval Latin pomacium, pomatium (“cider”), and pomaceum, from Latin pōmum (“fruit, apple”) + -āceus (“-aceous: forming adjectives”). Doublet of pomaceous, pomade, pomate, and pomatum. In reference to fruit pulp, via northern French pomat etc. used in reference to the mash left from the process of making cider.
