[edit]From Middle High German trehtic, trehtec, related to Middle Low German drechtich, drachtich. Equivalent to Tracht (“something carried”) + -ig. Cognate with Dutch drachtig, German Low German drachtig, Danish drægtig, Norwegian Bokmål drektig, Norwegian Nynorsk drektig, Swedish dräktig.
