Phono-semantic compound (形聲, OC *tʰɯːwɢ): semantic 人 (“man”) + phonetic 周 (OC *tjɯw). This character did not appear in the original version of Shuowen, but was added in by Xu Xuan, who was not able to identify 周 as the phonetic due to the phonetic discrepancy between 周 (MC t͡ɕɨu) and 倜 (MC tʰek̚).
