From two related Proto-Indo-European verbs:

  • Present tense from the perfective *dʰéh₁t, although the o-grade is unexpected.
  • Past tense from the past of the reduplicated imperfective *dʰédʰeh₁ti.

Both originate from the root *dʰeh₁-.
