Finnish[edit]

(index ka)

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finnic *kakci, from Proto-Finno-Permic *kakta. Final i is a common Baltic-Finnic innovation, by analogy to yksi (1). Cognates include Estonian kaks, North Sami guokte, Komi-Zyrian кык (kyk). This root is considered to be related to Proto-Ugric *kektä (giving eg. Hungarian két) and Proto-Samoyedic *kitä (giving eg. Nenets сидя (śid́a)) of the same meaning, but no regular Proto-Uralic form can be reconstructed.
