Etymology[edit]
From Middle English togon, from Old English tōgān (“to go apart”), from Proto-Germanic *tōgāną (“to go apart”), equivalent to to- + go. Cognate with German zergehen. Compare Old English tōgangan (“to go away, pass away”), Old Saxon tegangan.
