Etymology

From the Russian surname Крику́н (Krikún), a protagonist, a reporter in the Soviet 1942 play «Фронт» («Front», “The Front”) by the Soviet writer Aleksandr Korneychuk / Oleksandr Korniychuk, Russian: Алекса́ндр Корнейчу́к (Aleksándr Kornejčúk), Ukrainian: Олекса́ндр Корнійчу́к (Oleksándr Kornijčúk), which is from the word Russian крику́н (krikún, “screamer, crier, loudmouth, sensation-maker”).
