Literally: “to lift one's braid”.

Etymology

During the Qing dynasty, all men were required to wear long braids, and persecutors had to lift the head of male criminals by their braids before beheading them, hence this saying.

Pronunciation

Lua error in Module:wuu-pron at line 210: Invalid syllable: 2qiau bi tsr,2qiau+3bi tsr. Wugniu expected, but another romanisation is supplied.
