[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese põer (“to put”), from Latin pōnere, from Proto-Italic *pozinō. Cognate of Spanish poner, French pondre and Italian porre.

[edit]In Brazil, the conditional and the future indicative are not commonly used. The equivalent forms of synonyms (usually colocar) are used instead.
