Glyph origin
Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *bloms, *bum) : semantic 林 (“forest”) + phonetic 凡 (OC *bom) – lush. Originally a variant form of 芃 (OC *boːŋ, *bum).
Etymology
The religious sense “Brahman” is short for 梵摩 (MC bjomH ma), 梵覽摩 (MC bjomH lamX ma), from Sanskrit ब्रह्मन् (brahman, “Brahman”).
