abliegen (class 5 strong, third-person singular present liegt ab, past tense lag ab, past participle abgelegen, past subjunctive läge ab, auxiliary haben or sein)

  1. to be far away
  2. (Austria, Switzerland, Southern Germany) to become tender (e.g. of meat)

Usage notes[edit]

Only the auxiliary haben is used in northern and central Germany. In southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, sein is common in the vernacular and also, alternatively, in standard usage.
