From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Spanish, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French adober (equip a horseman) (perhaps via (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Catalan), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Frankish *dubban, from the same (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Germanic root as English dab, dub. Compare French daube (earlier dobe (1571), adobbe (1598)), Italian dobba (1549), adobbo (1570).[1]
