عَرَب (ʿarabf, m pl (collective, singulative عَرَبِيّ (ʿarabiyy), paucal عَرَب (ʿarab), plural عُرُوب (ʿurūb) or أَعْرُب (ʾaʿrub) or عُرْبَان (ʿurbān))

  1. Arabs, true Arabs
  2. bedouins

Usage notes[edit]

According to Lane's Arabic Lexicon (entry عرب, book I, p. 2045), عَرَب (ʿarab) is of the feminine gender. Modern usage appears to allow both feminine and masculine plural, e.g. the Wikipedia entry has الْعَرَب الْبَاقِيَة الَّذِين (al-ʿarab al-bāqiya allaḏīn ..., the remaining Arabs who ...) with بَاقِيَة (bāqiya, remaining) feminine singular but الَّذِين (allaḏīn, who) masculine plural.
