عَرَب ‎(ʿarabf, m pl ‎(collective, singulative عَرَبِيّ ‎(ʿarabiyy), paucal عَرَب ‎(ʿarab), plural عُرُوب ‎(ʿurūb) or أَعْرُب ‎(ʾaʿrub) or عُرْبَان ‎(ʿurbān) or أَعْرَاب ‎(ʾaʿrāb))

  1. Arabs, true Arabs
  2. bedouins

Usage notes[edit]

According to Lane's Arabic Lexicon (entry عرب, book I, p. 2045), عَرَب ‎(ʿarab) is of the feminine gender. Modern usage appears to allow both feminine and masculine plural, e.g. the Wikipedia entry has الْعَرَب الْبَاقِيَة الَّذِين ‎(al-ʿarab al-bāqiya allaḏīn ..., the remaining Arabs who ...) with بَاقِيَة ‎(bāqiya, remaining) feminine singular but الَّذِين ‎(allaḏīn, who) masculine plural.
