Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀤𑀺 (acchadi), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀅𑀙𑀢𑀺 (achati /⁠acchati⁠/), from Sanskrit आक्षेति (ā́kṣeti). Compare Gujarati છે (che).
