Yoruba is a Niger-Congo language widely spoken in West Africa. This page details standard practice to be followed on all Yoruba entries.

Spellings and diacritics[edit]

The underdot vowels, ẹ and ọ, should be used in page titles, but the tones should be marked in the headword line. High tones are marked with the acute accent (´), low tones with the grave accent (`), and mid tones are unmarked except in cases of a tone-bearing nasal that may be ambiguous, in which case a macron (¯) is used. For elongated nasal vowels, the standard form with a dash should be the lemmatized one, with the alternative forms linking to it. For example, aárùn-ún should be the lemmatized form while aárùnún & aárùn should link to it. The consonant ṣ should also be used in page titles.

The spelling used in Standard Yoruba should be where an entry is lemmatized, if possible, with dialectal forms linking to that spelling.

Yoruba uses these letters:
