- No direct English equivalent; expresses the idea of becoming evident, especially of something non-material that has been hidden or unknown. Examples:
Can be written as an open (spaced) or as a closed (solid) compound both as an adverb and an adjective together with adjectives, adverbs, and nouns (but only as a closed compound with verbs), but the open (spaced) forms are becoming less common or are no longer common or considered correct in some cases e.g. ilmiselvä / ilmi selvä, ilmiliekki / ilmi liekki, ilmiriita / ilmi riita, and ilmisota / ilmi sota but only ilmiantaja, ilmianto, ilmiasu, and ilmituloa.
