Borrowed from Old Khmer caṃnaṃ, caṃnām, caṃṇāṃ, caṃnāṃ (recollection, remembrance; to recollect, to remember; etc), extended form of Old Khmer cāṃ, cāṃma, cāṃmma, cāma, caṃ, cām, cāṃm, cam, from which Thai จำ (jam) was derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer ចំណាំ (cɑmnam).
