Usage notes
[edit]In Mainland China, 逮捕 refers to pretrial detention authorized by the procuratorate, which is equivalent to 羈押 / 羁押 (jīyā) in Taiwan and Macau. The apprehension of criminal suspects (whether in flagrante delicto or not) is known as 刑事拘留 (xíngshì jūliú) (刑拘 (xíngjū) in short).
In Taiwan, 逮捕 specifically refers to the arrest of wanted suspects or suspects committing a crime in flagrante delicto. Also see the usage notes at 拘提 (jūtí).
