Etymology[edit]

From Old East Slavic хорошь (xorošĭ) (13th century). Cognate with Ukrainian хоро́ший (xoróšyj), Belarusian харо́шы (xaróšy), харашы́цца (xarašýcca, to boast, to swagger). Further etymology unclear; probably originally abbreviated from the -шь form of хоро́брый (xoróbryj) from Proto-Slavic *xorbrъ (brave), hence cognate with хра́брый (xrábryj, brave), a borrowing from Old Church Slavonic храбръ (xrabrŭ).
