From Sanskrit क्षत्रिय (kṣatriya, kshatriya); possibly via Old Khmer °ksatra, kṣatra (reigning monarch; king; prince) through archaic forms กษัตร, กระษัตร. Compare Modern Khmer ក្សត្រ (ksâtrâ).
