Glyph origin[edit]
Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *tqaːs) : semantic 女 (“woman”) + phonetic 戶 (OC *ɡʷaːʔ).
《說文解字注》 considered it a corrupted form of 妬: Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *tqaːs) : semantic 女 (“woman”) + phonetic 妬 (OC *taːɡs).
