Glyph origin
Etymology
Perhaps Sino-Tibetan. Compare Chepang [script needed] (maiʔ, “meat”), Bodo (India) [script needed] (bʏiʔ, “deer”), Liangmai Naga [script needed] (ka-mî, “meat”), Northern Naga *me:y "meat, flesh"; a single etymon for "meat" and "deer" is also found in Tibetan [script needed] (ša, “meat”) & Tibetan [script needed] (šwa, “meat”) (Schuessler, 2007). If so, another semantic parallel is Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s/ɡ-la (“flesh, meat, deer”), whence Tibetan གླ (gla, “musk deer”) but Newar [script needed] (la, “meat, animal”) and [script needed] (lā, “flesh, meat”)
