From Middle High German verziehen, from Old High German farziohan, from Proto-West Germanic *frateuhan. Equivalent to ver- +‎ ziehen.

  1. (transitive) to warp, distort

Usage notes

If used in colloquial speech it is almost exclusively used in the perfect tense (e.g. Wir sind vor zwei Wochen verzogen; compare the phrase unbekannt verzogen). Usage in the other tenses (e.g. Wir verziehen in zwei Wochen) is rather unusual in colloquial speech and umziehen or übersiedeln is used instead (e.g. Wir ziehen in zwei Wochen um).
