From Proto-Tai *toːᴮ (“bee”). Cognate with Lao ຕໍ່ (tǭ), Lü ᦎᦸᧈ (ṫoa¹), Shan တေႃႇ (tàu), Zhuang doq. Compare Mon ထောဝ်.
