Etymology

From Classical Persian فرنگ (farang) or فرنگی (farangī, French; European; Westerner; Christian), from Old French franc (a Frank). Cognate with Khmer បារាំង (baarang), Burmese ဘရင်ဂျီ (bha.ranggyi) and Chinese 佛朗機佛朗机 (Fólǎngjī).
