Phono-semantic compound (形聲): semantic  ‎(oxygenated functional group) + phonetic  ‎(OC *kjiʔ). Modelled after (zhī, “lipid”) with a radical input from other oxygenated organic compounds such as (chún, “alcohol”) and (suān, “acid”), referring to ester linkages in lipids like glycerides.
