Phono-semantic compound (形聲形声, OC *pʰens) : semantic (horse) + phonetic (OC *pʰen, *benʔ, *peːnʔ, *beːnʔ) – to mount a horse by swinging a leg across it.

From (pián, “sweet but insincere (usually flattering) talk”), with tone change into the departing tone (Wang, 2000).
