We are trying to come up with a hawaiian name for a group of friends who are all gay, and fans of 1950's tiki culture. Something along the line of gay tribe or family. It's easy to find the word for tribe (lahui) and family ('ohana), but the gay part is a bit of a challenge. Some of the words we have discovered would include "aikane", "hau'oli", "'oli'oli" and "mahu", but we're not sure if these words are nouns or adjectives, or if they might be offensive, clinical, or just completely off the mark. The next question would be if the adjective is placed before noun (mahu lahui) or noun before adjective (lahui mahu) in the Hawaiian language. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The adjective follows the noun. lāhui can be a noun or adjective. ʻohana can be a noun or adjective. aikāne is a noun or an adjective that means friendly, but it also refers to people in a same-sex relationship. It’s a good word to use. Maybe ka hale aikāne (the house of friends). He aikāne, he pūnana na ke onaona (a friend is a haven of loveliness). hauʻoli is a noun or adjective that means happy, happiness, gay (but in the sense of happy, merry). ʻoliʻoli means joy, as in ʻEha malakia ka ʻili i ka ʻoliʻoli (the skin is sore with joy). māhū is a noun that means a homosexual of either sex. Just go with "Erin go bragh". The meaning is very similar and it's much less likely that you or the tattoo artist will get it wrong. If you do want it more literal, then Éireannach go dtí mo bhás is better. I already put Purva up above. Hebrew usually does not write the vowels, so פרט is only PRT. If you write it with the vowel, then it is פארט. The question is the last consonant, TH. Hebrew has two t letters, ט and ת. My feeling is that ט is better for थ. It is also possible to write it ת׳, but that is for the sound of Greek θ (th).
