Etymology[edit]

Possibly a transcription of Sanskrit मोह ‎(moha, folly), used as a slang term among monks[1][2][3]. Alternately, arising from the same root as Old Japanese ‎(woko, modern oko, stupidity, ridiculousness), also sometimes used as ateji for Sanskrit मोह ‎(moha).

The kanji are ateji.
