Category:Catalan epicene adjectives

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Catalan adjectives whose form is the same for both masculine and feminine, in languages whose adjectives normally distinguish gender.

These adjectives were inherited from the Latin first or third declension. This includes most adjectives ending in:

  • -a (by necessity), in particular -ista
  • -ant, -ent, -int (present participles)
  • stressed -al, -el, unstressed -il
  • stressed -ar, -or
  • -e, in particular -able, -ible (but some adjectives in -e have feminines in -a instead and do not belong here)
  • (these have distinct plural forms, because the -s cannot be directly attached: masculine plural -os, feminine plural -es)
