Simplified in the Heian period from the man'yōgana kanji 天.

- The [te] phoneme, typically in words of non-Japanese origin.
- The nineteenth character in the gojūon ordering of katakana. The previous character is ツ and the next character is ト. The equivalent hiragana character is て.
