Simplified in the Heian period from the man'yōgana kanji 多.

- The [ta] phoneme, typically in words of non-Japanese origin.
- The sixteenth character in the gojūon ordering of katakana. The previous character is ソ and the next character is チ. The equivalent hiragana character is た.
