Glyph origin

Ideogrammic compound (會意会意) : from 更生 (“to be reborn”).

Etymology

From *s- (causative prefix) + a root **ŋˤa, the latter found in (OC *ŋˤa-s, “to awake”), (OC *ŋˤa-s, “to awake; to realize”) (Baxter and Sagart, 2014; Schuessler, 2007).

Alternatively, Zhang, Jacques, and Lai (2019) compare it to Japhug sŋa (to come to oneself), Cogtse Situ [Term?] (kə-mə-sŋâr, to feel cold), Brag-bar Situ [Term?] (kə-mə-sŋiɛ̂r, to come to oneself).
