  1. (case suffix) from, out of. Used to form the elative case.
    Kiszabadultak a fogságból.They were released from captivity.
    A gyerekek kiszaladtak a házból.The children ran out of the house.

Usage notes

  • (case suffix) Harmonic variants:
    -ból is added to back vowel words. Final -a changes to -á-.
    alma (apple) → Kifogytunk az almából. - We ran out of apples.
    -ből is added to front vowel words. Final -e changes to -é-.
    zene (music) → Kifogytunk a zenéből. - We ran out of music.
