[edit]Symbol
[edit]ƞ
- (IPA, withdrawn) a syllabic/moraic nasal consonant
- Synonym: N
Usage notes
[edit]This retired symbol had been adopted specifically to transcribe the Japanese nasal syllable coda ⟨ん⟩, but has also been used for undefined nasal codas in other languages, such as Spanish. It has no defined sound other than being nasal. Rather, it is typically a homorganic nasal when preceding a consonant, and often indicates vowel nasalization when not.
