Etymology[edit]

Probably from (dok6, to measure; to ponder) +‎ (suk1, to withdraw; to reduce). Alternatively, it may come from (dok6, the name of a miser) +‎ (suk1, uncle) (Bai, 2003); compare English scrooge < Ebenezer Scrooge, Eastern Min 貽順哥贻顺哥 (ì-sông-gŏ̤) < 馬貽順马贻顺 (Mā Ì-sông).
