From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-klum (sweet) (Schuessler, 2007; STEDT). Cognate with Mizo thlum, Lepcha [script needed] (khlyam).

Possibly related to (OC *l'iːm, “sweet”) and (OC *kaːm, “mandarin orange”) (Schuessler, 2007).
