Particularly: “For some reason it's really hard to find concrete definition for this word, there're good amount of attestations on various websites, but few dictionary entries (Đại từ điển tiếng Việt has an entry for it though, with the definition "tóc ở hai bên thái dương"). Also Google seems to think I mean "side part" when search for it, but that's unlikely to be the etymology. It looks like (MC pjot) (SV: phát) by the way. According to Từ Điển Từ Vay Mượn Trong Tiếng Việt Hiện Đại, from French patte.”
