     The traditional tamashizume, which has facing the world of the other side as its theme, was already unable to satisfy the needs of the modern nation-state. Only the display of the contributions made by the dead to the country, and the resulting conferral of supreme posthumous honour to the dead, done by the emperor who had the status of arahitogami, was the direction of the development of the Japanese official religious system of Saisei Itchi at the time.
