Usage notes

[edit]

While 澳洲 (Àozhōu) is commonly used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and overseas Chinese communities to denote Australia, it is not always understood in mainland China, or is misunderstood as Oceania (see Australasia). To avoid confusion, the term 澳大利亞澳大利亚 (Àodàlìyà), which is more common in mainland China in general, can be used.
