Possibly from kata +‎ *-yo (cf. kayo, ninyo), with omission of the initial ka-. Compare Ilocano datayo (data +‎ -yo), Pangasinan sikatayo (sikata +‎ yo), Kapampangan tamu (ta +‎ mu), and Tausug taniyu (ta +‎ niyu).[1]
