Small form of the hiragana character え (e).

Combining form

1. Small combining form of hiragana え (e) used to explicitly specify the vowel part of the previous hiragana character, or to show a speaker's pronunciation or extension of that vowel.

   ちぇ - the sound [tɕe] rather than [tɕi] (ち) or [te] (て)

   ちぇんじ - transliteration of English change
