@Atitarev, Stephen G. Brown Hi, the character র isn't used in Modern Assamese, its variant ৱ (wobbo/wo) is used instead. In Bengali র is used for "r" sound, but in Old and Middle Assamese র was used for "v/w/u" sound (same in modern Mithilakshar). ৰ is "r" in Assamese. In conjunct consonants the difference isn't visible, so sometimes the Bengali র comes into Assamese texts and it can't transliterate since the character isn't present in the module. By the way সুদর্শন দেখাচ্ছে (śudorśon dekhacche) would be সুদৰ্শন দেখাই আছে (xudorxon dekhai ase) in Assamese :)

The Wikipedia article linked above states this: "Translated literally, the incantation is Cantonese for 'Ghosts and goblins quickly leave' (妖魔鬼怪快离开)."

My question:

• If possible, what would be the most proper/standardized Cantonese romanization for "妖魔鬼怪快离开"? (assuming the Hanzi are correct)

Additional comments:

• I don't speak Chinese or Cantonese, I don't know if "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao" works or if there could be a different answer. I looked the "Pronunciation" section of all 7 Hanzi given, and they generally don't seem to match the "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao". For instance, in Wiktionary 快 is romanized as "faai3" (Cantonese) or "kuài" (Mandarin), while the romanization given above uses "fai".

I have a question about между. In this song, the lyrics show между with the genitive instead of instrumental case. How does that work? When can you use it like that? Only for the rhythm?

Между may used with the genitive only in a few set expressions, such as: Проехать между деревьев, читать между строк.

The use of the genitive with между is now nearly obsolete. It is still found in a few set expressions or when referring to similar objects: между двух огней (between two fires); дорога шла между скал (the road was going between cliffs). @Equinox, I can't find anything definitive. The JA-market start screen has "Chiki Chiki" in romaji, offering no clear clues there. There isn't any term チキチキ in any resource I can find. The closest is suffix ちき (chiki) found in terms like いんちき (inchiki, “bogus, quack”), とんちき (tonchiki, “dullard, idiot”), 高%慢ちき (kōmanchiki, “conceited, arrogant”), where ちき (chiki) appears to be a shift in pronunciation from adjective-forming and Chinese-derived suffix 的 (teki, “-ish, -like, having that quality”). However, the meaning and usage don't fit.

Assuming a more generalized play on words, this could be reduplication of other terms, perhaps:

• 知己 (chiki, “a good friend”)
• 稚気, 穉気 (chiki, “a youthful or childlike appearance or manner”)
• 杠秤, 扛秤 (chiki, chigi, “a big balance weight used to measure the weight of large objects”) -- dunno if the game has any elements of carrying around big heavy things?
• 地気 (chiki, “the spirit of the earth; vapor or gas arising from the ground; the climate of a land; air in the soil; electrical grounding”)

Do any of those sound relevant for the game? I'm wholly unfamiliar with this title.

@Equinox - FWIW, in the Japanese Wikipedia I found some other works using チキチキ. Searching for "チキチキ" there currently returns 242 results (search link), including repeated mentions of the same things. I'll list some of those works here for comparison, but this will not be exhaustive as I didn't check all 242 results. I'll leave some notes here too, but I should mention I'm not great at reading Japanese yet. I believe most of those seem like onomatopeias and/or nonsense.

I usually remove them during archiving. I can't be sure what is happening with these. The person requesting help might be deliberately making up silly examples (who knows why?), or the person requesting may have received the text in a comment {or something along those lines), and might be making a legitimate request. It's impossible to know. In the current case, there are some unusual errors (i.e., unusual for a native German speaker), but the language use is advanced and I think only a native German speaker could have written it). —Stephen ^(Talk) 17:47, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

@Stephen G. Brown: Sorry, Stephen but I agree with User:Metaknowledge here. You give the pranksters the benefit of the doubt but they take advantage of the system and your kindness. These types of requests should be immediately removed. Most of the requesters never come back even to acknowledge they have read your translation. Yes, I know that you think the same way, but you can't possibly know that all those who you think are pranksters actually are. They might be, might not be. In any case, I don't see how this activity benefits a prankster. Little children might find it an amusing activity. And it's not only the prankster who don't come back to acknowledge translations, virtually no one does it. It's extremely rare for any anonymous user to acknowledge a translation in any way. The reason why I think some of these may be honest requests is because I myself have encountered odd words and phrases that mystified me, and when I asked someone who spoke the language to explain, I was told that it was nonsense, misspelled, or whatever. All of them might be valid requests, and all of them might be pranks.
