Attested in writing from 1910.[1] Formed by metathesis of the syllables in the dialectal word kaffi (“coffee”).

Etymology 2
Attested in writing from 1527. From Old Swedish fikia (“to hurry, to eagerly strive for”). Related to Danish fige, dialectal Norwegian fikia, Icelandic fíkjask. According to Svenska Akademiens ordbok, it might be related to the Norwegian verb fika (“to eagerly move ones arms back and forth”) and German ficken (“to rub”).[1]
